I suggest the Doom3 source code. https://github.com/TTimo/doom3.gpl I find it to be extremely readable, and it has a C with classes approach that I tend to gravitate towards when I'm developing in C++. It is not an example of "modern C++".

…cache misses. The Doom3 source code might be worth looking at, but I'm sure it's the same story. https://github.com/TTimo/doom3.gpl At the very least, there's a lot of great reference out there.

The source for the physics engine ( https://github.com/TTimo/doom3.gpl/tree/master/neo/game/phys... ) looks rather interesting. Might contain valuable additions for other physics engines to pick up.
