About Hacker GitHub
Hacker GitHub ranks the GitHub repositories that come up most on Hacker News, across every story and comment since GitHub launched in 2008. It is in the spirit of HackerBooks and Wikihack, but for code.
How it counts
- A mention is one HN story or comment that links to
github.com/owner/repo. A deeper path, such as an issue or a file, counts for its repo. One item counts once per repo, however often it repeats the link. - Deleted and dead items are ignored. GitHub's own pages (
/blog,/features,/orgs…) are not repos and are ignored. - Repos with fewer than 3 mentions are left out. Repos that GitHub reports as moved or renamed are merged into their current name; repos that no longer exist are dropped.
- Hidden gems ranks repos linked by at least 8 different HN accounts by
people × 1000 ÷ (stars + 1000): many people point to it, few have starred it. People rather than mentions, so self-promotion does not count.
